An appeal to ridicule dismisses an argument by making it sound absurd rather than addressing it on its merits. Mocking a position is not the same as refuting it. An idea can sound silly when caricatured but be perfectly reasonable when presented fairly.
Also known as Reductio ad Ridiculum, this is a informal fallacy — the error lies in the content or context of the argument rather than its formal structure.

How to Fix It
