A sentence checker analyzes individual sentences for grammar correctness, clarity, conciseness, and style. It catches errors that paragraph-level tools miss because it focuses on the structure and mechanics of each sentence independently.
Subject-verb agreement, incorrect tense, misplaced modifiers, pronoun reference errors, and other grammar mistakes that spell check alone won't catch. "The team are meeting" and "each of the students need" are errors that require grammar analysis, not just dictionary lookup.
Convoluted sentence structures, double negatives, and ambiguous pronoun references make writing hard to follow. "The manager told the employee that he needed to improve his performance" — who needs to improve? The sentence is grammatically correct but unclear.
Wordy phrases add length without meaning. "At this point in time" means "now." "In order to" means "to." "Due to the fact that" means "because." The checker identifies these padding phrases and suggests shorter alternatives.
Passive voice isn't always wrong, but overusing it makes writing feel distant and unclear. "The report was completed by the team" is passive; "The team completed the report" is active, shorter, and clearer about who did what.
Paste individual sentences or full paragraphs above. The checker evaluates each sentence and provides specific suggestions. It works for any writing: emails, essays, reports, cover letters, social media posts, and creative writing.
