The spelling difference is just one letter (ph vs. ph/u), and both words come from Greek roots related to "pleasant speech." Euphemism derives from "euphemismos" (speaking with good words), while euphuism takes its name from Lyly's character Euphues, whose name means "graceful" or "well-endowed by nature."
